PURPOSE STATEMENT
The qualifying learner assessed as competent against this module will be able to plan, implement and participate in area integrity practices related to protection of natural areas.
COURSE OUTCOMES
A qualifying learner assessed as competent against this module will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the 8 step counter poaching model
- Draw up operational protection plans for natural resource areas
- Demonstrate supervision and training skills for the development of Field Rangers
During the course participants will undergo a theory examination as well as undergo practical exercises.

WHO CAN ATTEND?
Any person in the public or private sector who is responsible for planning and implementing strategic operations within protected areas:
- Park wardens / managers, rangers and senior field staff
- People involved with the implementation of security operations and law enforcement within protected areas
- Conservationists who wish to expand their knowledge and broaden their knowledge of protected area management
COSTS
R4600 includes all accommodation, meals, course learning material & training at the Southern African Wildlife College.
SKILLS PROGRAMS
Skills programmes are shorter than a full qualification course, but longer than a short course.
They combine a cluster of unit standards focused around a particular learning area, allowing the student to specialize in an area which may be of direct relevance to their current work. Examples of skills programmes are - Field Ranger, General Field Assistant, Community Conservation Officer, Field Research Assistant etc.
The Skills Programmes registered on the National Qualification Framework (NQF) are in the process of being finalized by THETA (Tourism, Hospitality & Sport Education &Training Authority) .
