PURPOSE STATEMENT
A learner who has achieved this qualification will be able to integrate practical skills and theoretical knowledge in achieving basic competency to part-take or operate in various Tourism and Hospitality services. Embedded throughout this course is an emphasis on tourism operations, questions and hypotheses, ethically and with a sense of responsibility towards wildlife and the environment.
COURSE OUTCOMES
The three week period encompasses learning about Tourism products and services associated with protected areas, customer care, safety and security of tourists especially in protected areas, marketing and advertising, eco-tourism and sustainable tourism. There will be a field trip included in this period. Students will have 3 assessments to complete, which include: designing an advert, conducting a role play, and compiling a marketing plan. The marketing plan can be submitted at a later stage. The course is practically and theoretically orientated with reference to case studies and examples from the SADC region. Participants are involved in class discussions and a number of group tasks during which they are able to share ideas and experiences.
The entire program includes:
- Development of tourism development plans
- Green building options for tourism infrastructure
- Community Based Tourism
- Different partnerships
During the course training participants will undertake 3 assessments, of which the Marketing plan can be handed in at a later stage. In the middle of the course participants will be involved in an assessment that entails developing a Tourism Development Plan for a Conservation / Community Area, as well as undergo practical exercises.
COST:
The full course cost would be: R11200. Includes all accommodation, meals, course learning material & training at the Southern African Wildlife College.

The Tourism Management Program is aimed at a broad target market and would be beneficial to any of the following:

- Current tourism and tour operators who would like to expand their knowledge and skills base.

- Trackers and guides who are involved in the in the wildlife industry.
